Highest-grade gold mines in West Africa in Q2 2020

Roxgold’s Yaramoko mine in Burkina Faso was the highest-grade gold mine in West Africa (based on gold grade in milled ore) in Q2 2020.

The grade or concentration of a mineral or metal in ore directly affects costs associated with mining as well as its subsequent beneficiation and extraction of precious components.

Mines and Metals ranked currently active gold operations in West Africa based on gold grade in a tonne of milled ore. We looked at operations that are separate reporting units and which have Q2 2020 gold grade figures disclosed by the owners/operators.

With 8.2 g/t of gold in milled ore, Roxgold’s Yaramoko mine in Burkina Faso was the highest-grade gold mine in West Africa in Q2 2020.

Barrick’s Loulo Gounkoto mine in Mali sits second with 4.92 g/t of gold achieved during Q2 2020.

B2Gold’s Fekola mine in Mali is third highest-grade gold operation in West Africa (3.11 g/t), followed by Resolute’s Mako mine in Senegal (2.69 g/t) and Syama mine in Mali (2.57 g/t).
